I don't understand where this purported conflict comes from, I think you are manufacturing a "standards battle" where none exists. CRISP/IRIS is where it's at, no one really loves WHOIS, it's old and well, showing it's age and limitations. Registries will move away from WHOIS in due course. This is normal standards development and evolutionary change due to growing requirements.
